Two defendants sentenced to prison
In Greene County district court Kage Tyler Gordon, 26, of Howell, NJ, was sentenced Oct. 24 to two five-year terms and one two-year term in prison after he changed his plea to guilty in two separate cases. The first case was initiated 9/24/2021 on a charge of child endangerment causing serious injury. The charge was amended to willful injury resulting in bodily injury and child endangerment- substantial risk. Gordon was sentenced to five years in prison on the willful injury charge. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; the fine and surcharge was suspended. He was sentenced to two years, concurrent to the longer sentence, on the child endangerment charge. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge (both suspended.)
The second case against Gordon was initiated 10/01/21. He was charged with conspiracy to commit forcible felony (two counts), conspiracy to commit non-forcible felony, and conspiracy to commit aggravated misdemeanor. He was sentenced to five years in prison, consecutive to the time in the previous case. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; both were suspended. Other charges in the case were dismissed. Richard J. Sabus, 59, of Churdan was sentenced Oct. 24 to five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of theft- second degree, amended from theft- first degree. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge (suspended), and a $500 agricultural theft surcharge. He must pay restitution to the owner of $8,875.38 for stolen grain. Court costs were $174.72. Anthony Benjamin Balch, 36, of Fort Dodge was sentenced to 180 days in jail after he pleaded guilty at arraignment to operating while intoxicated. All but two days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Greene County sheriff (length of probation not specified). He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Balch was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. Candice Marie Ortiz pleaded not guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. A trial date was set for Dec. 23.
Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant that George Joseph Glasgow, 51, of Jefferson is charged with possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offense. The case was initiated 10/12; the warrant was served 10/28.
Cases were initiated during the week ending Oct. 28 as follows: Jay Dolliver Orsack, 55, of Churdan, operating while intoxicated; and Truemon Glenn Phillips, 52, of Albia, operating while intoxicated and possession of marijuana.
